The project required the design of an architectural support (telamon) in an artificial landscape. The landscape was derived from the abstraction of a 2-dimensional futurist painting and my body proportions. The chosen futurist painting is“Pessimismo e Optimismo” (1923) by Giacomo Bella. The painting’s title and opposing geometries derived the concept of “optimism & pessimism”. This interpretation is applied to the artificial landscape of a skatepark by studying proportions of standard skate ramps and the human body. The skaters are given opportunities in the landscape to challenge and interact with elements that bring optimism and pessimism to their experience. The skatepark explores relationship between movement and opposing geometries.
